The Climate Crisis - How much difference can we make?
Let’s find out how much difference: 8 schools, over 3,300 students and 500 staff and all their family and friends can make to what is widely regarded as the biggest challenge facing humanity?
The climate crisis has recently come into much sharper focus because of the COP26 event in Glasgow. As the Chair of an organisation responsible for the education of over 3,300 young people across our 8 schools I have always been aware of the impact climate change will have on their futures.
Our schools recently signed up to LetsGoZero which supports schools in taking action to meet and exceed the government's expectations in combating the climate crisis.
Together we’re harnessing the power of schools and young people to drive change and spark climate action in communities across the country, reducing emissions, increasing biodiversity and safeguarding our planet for future generations.
We are working with our schools on various strands to play our part in creating a better future for our young people.
Education - we are developing links right across our curriculum to help students learn about the climate crisis; its causes and solutions
Communication - we are sharing information with our students and their communities to build understanding and support for action
Estates - we are challenging our resource management, procurement and maintenance functions to look for and implement climate friendly solutions wherever possible
Kofi Annan said:
“There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. There is no duty more important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives are free from fear and want and that they grow up in peace."
There is no greater challenge to this responsibility we all have than climate change; it is my hope that you feel able to support the Trust, its staff, students and governance volunteers in this important work.
We’ve already made great progress and have set out what we hope to achieve - help us turn it into reality.
